The history of the Bike Northwoods Tour formerly the Northwoods to Capitol Tour
In the fall of 1998 Kathy and I helped with a mailing at the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin (BFW) office. We asked Jeanne Hoffman, then the Executive Director of the BFW, how they raise money? This is it, Jeanne said, this mailing to the members of the BFW is a big source of our operating money.
The BFW should do a bike ride, we said.
We’d love to do a bike ride, we just haven’t had anyone that’s wants to set it up, she replied.
So we went home and mulled over the idea of, “a tour for the BFW.”
We recently organized and rode on a summer and winter Organ Donation Awareness Bicycle Tour around Wisconsin so we had experience planning bike tours. We got very excited by the thought of doing a small cross-state tour for the BFW.
We called Jeanne the next day and told her our company Two Bicycles and a Map Ltd., would like to plan a benefit tour for the BFW. Hence the beginning of the Northwoods to Capitol Tour.

"Port Wing, everything about that town was fun! Everyone was so friendly. The road signs along the hills kept us going and reminded me of the old Burma Shave signs.
Spectacular scenery.  Fellow bikers.
We had a great time and were pleased with how well organized and well run the tour was. All we had to do was ride," Kathy P. McFarland, WI
