Getting to the Staging Area at Waunakee

In our effort to decrease the carbon foot print of our tour participants traveling to and from the tour start, we are offering a Motorcoach Option from the staging area in Waunakee to the tour start in Cable. We will offer clean air conditioned motorcoaches with bicycle transport.

Staging Area
The Staging Area will be at Waunakee High School, 1001 South Street Drive, Waunakee, WI 53597 Map
Waunakee is located about 14 miles north of Madison. It is located near Hwy 19 west. By car, take exit 131 west, off Interstate 90/94.

Be sure to allow yourself adequate time for the drive to the staging area, because construction delays are common this time of year.
Update 2/17/09: Plan to arrive at the staging area between 8 a.m. and 9am.The last motorcoach and bike transport will leave at NEW TIME 9am.

Ride share to the Staging Area
If you need a ride or you can ride-share to the staging area or ride start, you can post a message on the Bike Wisconsin forum.

Long-term parking at the Staging Area in Waunakee
Tour participants may park all week but must purchase a Southern Long Term Parking Pass for Waunakee for $6. Parking is at your own risk. You can prepay for the Long-term Parking Pass and pick it up when you arrive at the staging area in Waunakee.

Friday 7/10 at the Staging Area in Waunakee Pre-Ride Accommodations
There are pre-ride accommodations at the staging area in Waunakee on Friday 7/10.
You can outdoor camp for $12 per tent and it includes use of the indoor showers until 10pm at the school. No indoor accommodations are available.

If you are shipping your bike 
Bicycles can be shipped via UPS or FedEx to Wheel & Sprocket. They are the bike shop that will be supporting the tour. Wheel and Sprocket will bring your bike to the start. Make arrangements with them to ship your bike out at the end of the tour. Check with them for details about shipping your bike. Email cindy.swift@wheelandsprocket.net

For those flying in
We recommend you fly into Madison WI on Friday, July 10. This leaves yourself plenty of time in case of a delayed flight. We recommend flying into and out of the Dane County Regional Airport (MSN) This is the closest airport with the best connections.

Staging Area Shuttle Service Option
We will again offer a shuttle service to the staging area in Waunakee from Madison on Saturday July 11 and back from the Staging area to Madison on July 17. more details

New End of tour motorcoach and bike transport
Because the tour is a loop, starting and finishing in Cable. We will also provide Motorcoach and Bike Transport from the finish back to to the staging area. The motorcoach and bike transport will depart from the finish area in Cable WI on Friday July 17 and return to the staging area in Waunakee WI.
